Selingan Island good enough for sea turtles!

Frequently visited by green and hawksbill turtles, seems Selingan Island is good enough for the sea turtles of Sabah, Borneo!

Overnight guests are called upon by experienced rangers to witness any activity of turtle hatchlings on the beach!

British clients Antons & Natalja spend a night at the island, just off the coast of Sandakan, Sabah, as part of our Downbelow travel centre’s 3D2N Turtles & Wildlife program. During the evening (at any time!), overnight guests are called upon by experienced rangers to witness any activity of turtle hatchlings on the beach.

The cold mountain of Sabah!

The cold mountain of Sabah begins on the Laban Rata plateau of the mighty Mount Kinabalu in the Crocker Range.

Climbing to the summit takes more than physical effort and fitness, but also willpower and mental strength.

Up to the Lows Peak summit of the mountain, the terrain is not completely barren of life, there are living organisms at even that extremity of such freezing temperatures. Climbing to the summit takes more than physical effort and fitness, but also willpower and mental strength.

There’s plenty of suggestions from our Downbelow travel experts when guests book a Mount Kinabalu climbing program, such as investing in our KK Dive Shop products specific for mountain climbing activities: walking poles, fleecey jackets, lip balm. Contact our experts for more information.

More time to dive on Nitrox!

For He Wong and Matthias, they can look forward to more time to dive on Nitrox!

…when they do continue diving in other amazing destinations, they must firstly select a reputable dive operation, such as Downbelow Marine and Wildlife Adventures!

As PADI Instructor Timmy demonstrates to his students how to use the oxygen analyser, they know that: in order to understand why only once the air in the cylinder is analysed, then may they plan their dives according to the oxygen content. But practising the skill itself is the best method of retaining the knowledge!

Surfing champ turns diver at Downbelow!

Surfing champ, Samuel, turns diver at Downbelow’s PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah!

As an ‘Under 16’ category champion of the Borneo Surf Festival, presented by the very popular Rip Curl brand, he was very likely the most famous person to have ever visited Downbelow!

After winning the annual Borneo Surf Festival 2015 (hosted by Nexus Resort & Spa Karambunai), Samuel wanted to excel in a different water sport: SCUBA! Under the guidance of our dedicated PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Kerry (and learning alongside fellow students Jan and Rebecca Schmid from Sweden), Samuel gains another skill with the qualification of PADI Open Water Diver to prove it.

It was most certainly a very special Christmas for Samuel – to have gained both a title in surfing and a scuba diving qualification, whilst on holiday with his family in Sabah, Borneo!
