This protected lowland rainforest is home to an impressive range of wildlife. Sightings over the years have included the Bornean pygmy elephant, Bornean gibbons, leaf monkeys, and the elusive Sunda clouded leopard. Orangutans and the distinctive Proboscis monkey are also known to inhabit the area. While wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, Danum Valley remains one of the best locations in Sabah for observing rainforest species in their natural habitat.
