Ex Lahad Datu: Covering 43, 800 hectares (438 km2), the Danum Valley Conservation Area is one of the largest, most important and best-protected expanses of pristine lowland forest remaining in South East Asia situated in South-eastern Sabah, Malaysia Borneo. Infapro is located in the eastern part of the Ulu-Segama forest reserve and is buffering the world renowned Danum Valley Conservation Centre.

Wildlife thrive in the forest around Infapro – surrounded by areas of virgin tropical rainforest, wildlife can migrate freely between the areas. Altogether, the neighbouring areas of primary and secondary forest form an enlarge, safe and healthy habitat for the rich flora and fauna.

Danum Valley Field Centre

Infapro covers an area of 25,000 hectares and aims to rehabilitate severely logged over forest areas. This restoration and protection of acutely degraded forest has been ongoing since 1992 and uses enrichment planting methods. This consists of planting young dipterocarp trees including some that have been classified on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Flora is primarily that of the Borneo lowland rain forest habitat, with dipterocarp trees predominating. In places the forest canopy reaches a height of over 90 meters, within it is the worlds tallest tropical tree standing at 94.1m.  The valley is home to over 15,000 plant species, though 94% of the plants belong to the dipterocarp genus. Other flora seen in the valley are pitcher plants. The valley is bowl-shaped, with a maximum land height of 1093m.

Infapro has been certified with the Voluntary Carbon Standards by United Nation Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (UNIPCC) in 2011 and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in 2012.

Lately Danum Valley has gained more popularity for being a study centre as well as for its forest rehabilitating works which has opened ways for visitors to see first hand the vastness of nature and the delicate effort that goes into the preservation of this wonder of nature. Our exclusive tour programme combines stays at the Infapro centre and trekking to the surrounding forest including a full day trekking at the Danum Valley Field Centre. Contact us and we will provide full details on our programs.
