The greater openness of the secondary forest in Tabin makes it easier to spot birds than in a more dense primary forest, especially for raptors, hornbills, and canopy flock species. Tabin Wildlife Reserve is a natural aviary. The access roads in the reserve are surrounded by secondary forest with tree growth of up to 50 metres high, this relatively low canopy with ample natural light makes birding and photography a delightful experience.
