University of South Wales Field Trip 2016
The University of South Wales visits our premier PADI 5 Star IDC Dive Centre for their annual tropical ecology field trip with Downbelow! For the next couple of weeks, the 30-strong group of University students & world renown professors will be staying at our island beach house in TAR marine park to conduct a variety of field study skills training sessions, such as underwater visual census surveys, fish counting techniques using quadrats and line transects, as well as coral reef cover surveys, all as part of their BSc International Wildlife Biology and Natural History degree!
Not all students are certified scuba divers, but they will still contribute by snorkelling the shallow waters learning the skills for top reef surveys. The In water research skills training will be conducted by our dedicated team of PADI instructors led by our experienced resident PADI Platinum Course Director Richard Swann who will also supervise diver safety of the entire program. Richard will happily be sharing his own experiences and knowledge of the local marine environment that we work in everyday. We are always honoured to receive the students & future scientists of USW, because not only do we have an awesome time with them, but the field study skills learned can make a positive difference to protecting and preserving our beautiful tropical paradise in future years!
